MTSS
At Rockford Area Schools we are passionate about every student thriving in and out of the classroom. To best support students in their educational journey we use a comprehensive, evidence-based prevention framework called the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). Through MTSS we use data to inform our decision-making. This means matching the assessments and resources available in the areas of social, emotional, academic, and behavior with the needs of each student.
The MTSS Framework consists of three tiers (pictured below), increasing the intensity of interventions at each tier to support the success of each student. At Rockford Schools we are continually supporting our teachers so they can provide high quality, differentiated instruction to all students. This core instruction happens within Tier 1. Students who need additional support to be successful or students who would benefit from enrichment opportunities receive them within the classroom or in small groups. These Tier 2 interventions happen in addition to the excellent instruction students receive in the general education classroom. Staff who facilitate Tier 2 intervention are specially trained to administer them with fidelity. Students who need more intensified, targeted interventions to master skills, at the Tier 3 level, participate in small group and one-on-one instruction.
This aligned, research-based framework ensures that every student who attends Rockford Area Schools has success in their educational journey by supporting their needs socially, emotionally, behaviorally, and academically.
