Who are your nurses?

Heather Simonson- Elementary School Nurse

Hi, my name is Heather and I am the nurse at the elementary school. My husband and I are from northern Minnesota. We have lived in Rockford since 2007 with our two daughters. I have worked at REAMS since 2015 - 3 as a para and in the health office since 2018. I enjoy watching my daughters dance, reading, and taking my dog, Mister, on walks.

Lindsey Menard- Middle School Nurse

Hi! My name is Lindsey Menard, and I am the nurse at the middle school. I am married and have two boys who attend Rockford Area Schools. I spent 12 years working in oncology and 8 years in the operating room before transitioning into my role as a school nurse in February 2025. With my husband working at the high school, our whole family is now on the same schedule! Outside of school, I enjoy watching my boys play sports, walking my dog Walter, traveling, and going to concerts.

Becca Morgan- District and High School Nurse

Hello Rockford community! I'm Becca and I'm the district and high school nurse. I grew up in Pipestone, Minnesota, as did my husband, Chris. We have 3 children who attend Rockford Area Schools. I went to nursing school in Sioux Falls and began my career in Pediatrics and the NICU but began school nursing in 2006 and never looked back. I went back to school in 2011 and got my Master of Science in Nursing Education and have worked for RAS since 2015. I have many hobbies because I prefer to stay busy, these include reading, gardening, walking, going to "hippie festivals" (as my husband calls them), and dancing.

Immunizations

To go to school in Minnesota, students must show they have had the immunizations required by law or file a legal exemption with the school. Parents may file a medical exemption signed by a health care provider or a conscientious objection signed by a parent/guardian and notarized. Health Forms

Anaplylaxis Action Plan - For students with severe allergies to either environmental or food allergens, must be submitted annually with parent and physician signature.

Asthma Action Plan (English) - Must be submitted annually with parent and physician signature.

Asthma Action Plan (Spanish) - Must be submitted annually with parent and physician signature.

Diabetes Action Plan - Must be submitted annually with parent and physician signature.

Seizure Action Plan - Must be submitted annually with parent and physician signature.

Special Diet Statement - For students with food allergies/intolerances

Medication Administration

Prescription Medication

All prescription medications require a doctor’s order and signed parent permission. The medication must be brought to the school in its original container with a label prepared by a pharmacist. This form must be completed annually (once per school year) and/or when a change in the prescription or requirements for administration occurs.

Over-the-Counter Medication

With over-the counter medications, elementary and middle school students should follow the same policy as prescription medications. High school students will be allowed to carry over-the-counter medications on their person, but the following rules apply:

a. The medicine must be in its original container with label and dosage information intact, and must be administered in a manner consistent with the instructions on the label.

b. A written permission note from the student’s parent/guardian must be submitted to the health office each year for the student to self-administer the nonprescription medication. This note must state the reason for the medication.

c. The student’s name must be hand-written on the container.

d. The student is not to share his/her medication with any other students.

Only high school students can carry nonprescription medications with parent written permission on file in the health office. If any of the above rules are abused, the right will be cancelled.

Inhalers for Asthma

Minnesota State Law now permits a student to carry an inhaler if he/she knows the specific criteria. Please discuss this with the school nurse. Rules for prescription medication (above) still apply.
